Financially Supporting the High Schools
It is the Kansas City Rugby Foundation’s belief that Rugby needs to begin at the lowest sustainable level to build the solid foundation needed to continue to grow in greater Kansas City.
The Foundation has vigorously supported high school Rugby in Kansas City where financial help is needed since its inception over 20 years ago. This year alone, funds were distributed to two boys high school teams and one girls high school team.
There have been preliminary conversations regarding a possible re-entry into both the Kansas City School District and the Lee’s Summit area. Both had teams in the past, but were not able to stay active after the first set of coaches moved from the area. While all new equipment and kit (uniforms) will be needed for both, the Foundation stands ready to support either or both efforts.
A bit further down the pipeline are the “Rookie Rugby” programs seen all over the country. These Sunday afternoon sessions are geared for primary school children and emphasize the FUN of playing an active outdoor team sport, while the basic fundamentals of play are taught to these youngsters. There is an outside chance of another Rookie Rugby program starting in greater Kansas City.
